‘Japan Polaroids’ Limited Edition Box Set
In 1981 I struck up a friendship with David Sylvian of the group Japan. We were both fans of Warhol and art in general and as I am a visual artist we found we shared many common interests.
Shortly after we met David invited me to visit him at Nomis studios where Japan were currently rehearsing and I took along my Polaroid SX70 camera in order to take some shots to use as reference for paintings I planned to make.
Present that day at Nomis was Japan’s glamorous PR lady Connie Filipello who dubbed me ‘The Gentleman who takes Polaroids’ ...a play on the title of the groups recent album....this set of Polaroids were taken on that day.
I painted several portraits of David Sylvian at this time which were featured in my London solo exhibition, on Channel 4’s ‘The Tube’ TV show and in magazines such as The Face and Blitz.
Sylvian and I remained close friends for the next few years until after Japan had split.
The Polaroids were then filed away in boxes where they remained for the next 37 years.
This is the first time that these images have been made available for sale as prints.
This edition will be limited to 50 boxes.
Presentation Box of 8 A5 hand signed reproduction Polaroid prints on heavyweight 308gsm Hahnemuhl art paper.
